부족하기에, 하나님이 쓰십니다

이번 주 맥체인 성경 읽기를 통해 신명기 8장과 9장 말씀을 묵상하며 큰 은혜를 받았습니다. 가나안 땅을 앞둔 이스라엘을 향해, 하나님은 모세의 설교를 통해 한 가지를 강력히 경고하십니다. 바로 ‘하나님을 잊지 말고 교만하지 말라’는 것입니다.

우리가 대단하고 열심히 노력해서 가나안을 얻은 것이 아닙니다. 오직 하나님의 언약과 은혜가 우리를 그곳에 머물게 하신 것입니다.

"네가 가서 그 땅을 차지함은 네 공의로 말미암음도 아니며 네 마음이 정직함으로 말미암음도 아니요... 네 조상 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱에게 하신 맹세를 이루려 하심이니라" (신명기 9:5)

이 말씀이 가슴 깊이 다가왔습니다. ‘나의 나 된 것’은 나의 의로움이나 정직함 때문이 아니라, 오직 하나님의 열심 덕분이었습니다.

목회자로서 늘 부족함을 마주합니다. 능력도, 도덕성도, 열심도 턱없이 부족해 보일 때면 깊은 자괴감이 들기도 합니다. 그러나 역설적으로 그 부족함 속에서 새로운 은혜를 깨닫습니다. ‘내가 부족하기에, 오히려 하나님이 쓰시기에 가장 좋은 그릇이구나.’

부족함이 주는 능력이 있습니다. 내 능력의 한계를 알기에 나를 철저히 내려놓고 오직 전능하신 하나님만 의지하게 됩니다. 주님을 더욱 갈망하게 되고, 마침내 내 삶에 일하시는 하나님을 경험하게 됩니다.

성도 여러분의 삶에도 부족함이 찾아올 때가 있습니다. 그때 결코 낙심하지 마십시오. 오히려 주님께 이렇게 고백해 보시기 바랍니다. "주님, 저는 부족함이 많기에 목자이신 예수님이 절대적으로 필요합니다."

선한 목자이신 주님이 함께하시면, 우리는 결코 부족함이 없습니다. 이번 한 주간도 내 부족함을 넘어 일하시는 하나님의 은혜를 깊이 누리시기를 기도합니다.

Used by God Because of Our Brokenness

This week, while reading Deuteronomy chapters 8 and 9 through the M'Cheyne

Bible Reading Plan, I was deeply moved. Right before entering the Promised Land,

God shared His heartfelt concern through Moses’ sermon. The core message was

clear: **never forget God, and do not become proud.**

It was not because of our extraordinary ability or hard work that we gained the land

of Canaan. It was strictly God’s covenant and grace that allowed us to stay there.

"It is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you are going in to

take possession of their land... but to accomplish the promise He made with an

oath to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob." (Deuteronomy 9:5)

This scripture brought me immense grace. Where I am today is not due to my own

righteousness or honesty, but purely because of God’s relentless zeal.

As a pastor, I often face my own inadequacies. There are moments when my

abilities, morality, and passion feel so insufficient that a sense of despair creeps in.

Yet, looking at it from another perspective, a beautiful realization struck me:

"Precisely because I am weak and lacking, I am a vessel that is ready for God to

use."

There is a unique power that comes from our brokenness. Knowing the limits of my

own strength forces me to let go of myself and fully rely on the Almighty. It drives

me to thirst for Him even more, allowing me to truly experience His working hand in

my life.

Dear saints, there are seasons when you will encounter emptiness and inadequacy

in your own lives. When those moments come, do not be discouraged. Instead,

offer this confession to the Lord:

"Lord, because I have so many shortcomings, I desperately need Jesus to be my

Shepherd."

When the Good Shepherd is with us, we lack nothing. I pray that throughout this

week, you will walk with this heart and deeply experience the grace of God that

works beyond all our human limitations.
