선교는 전쟁입니다

교회에서는 선교를 이야기할 때 흔히 "선교여행"이라는 표현을 사용합니다. 물론 선교도 넓은 의미에서는 여행의 한 형태일 수 있습니다. 그러나 성경적인 관점에서 선교는 단순한 여행이 아닙니다. 저는 종종 선교를 전쟁이라고 표현합니다.

그 이유는 첫째, 선교가 영혼을 구원하는 사역이기 때문입니다. 특별히 우리 교회처럼 미전도 종족을 향해 나아가는 선교는 치열한 영적 전쟁입니다. 한 영혼이 사망에서 생명으로, 지옥에서 천국으로 옮겨지는 일이기 때문입니다. 그래서 선교를 준비할 때나 현장에서 사역할 때 영적 저항을 경험하는 경우가 많습니다.

둘째, 각 나라와 지역에는 하나님을 대적하는 영적 세력이 존재하기 때문입니다. 우리가 그 땅에서 예배하고 복음을 전하며 영혼을 구원할 때, 사탄은 자신의 영역을 빼앗기는 것을 원하지 않습니다. 그래서 선교하는 교회와 선교사, 목회자들을 여러 방법으로 공격하기도 합니다. 저희 교회와 함께 동역하는 많은 교회들이 이러한 영적 전쟁을 경험해 왔습니다.

그러므로 선교에 가장 필요한 것은 기도입니다. 강력한 중보기도만이 선교팀을 도울 수 있습니다. 저희 교회가 선교팀을 위한 중보기도 사역을 더욱 강화하는 이유도 여기에 있습니다.

특별히 이번 탄자니아 선교팀을 위해 많은 기도를 부탁드립니다. 저는 지난 15년 동안 탄자니아 선교를 감당하며 질병, 분열, 여러 어려움 등 다양한 영적 공격을 경험했습니다. 무엇보다 이번 선교에는 다음세대가 많이 참여합니다. 사탄은 다음세대가 은혜를 받고 하나님께 헌신하는 것을 가장 싫어합니다.

탄자니아 선교 출발이 이제 1주일 앞으로 다가왔습니다. 이번 한 주간 선교팀과 함께 집중적으로 기도하며 선교를 준비하려고 합니다. 부모님들께서는 꼭 함께 참석하셔서 자녀들을 위해 기도해 주시고, 모든 성도님들께서도 한마음으로 선교를 위해 중보해 주시기를 부탁드립니다.

Mission Is Warfare

When churches talk about missions, we often use the term "mission trip." While missions may broadly fit into the category of travel, from a biblical perspective, missions are much more than a trip. I often describe missions as warfare.

There are two reasons for this.

First, missions involve the work of saving souls. Especially for churches like ours that focus on reaching unreached people groups, missions are a serious spiritual battle. We are participating in God's work of bringing people from death to life and from darkness into His marvelous light. Because of this, we often experience spiritual resistance both before and during mission work.

Second, there are spiritual forces of darkness that oppose the Kingdom of God in every nation and region. When we worship, proclaim the Gospel, and lead people to Christ, the enemy does not willingly surrender his territory. As a result, Satan often attacks churches, pastors, missionaries, and ministry teams in various ways. Our church, along with many of our ministry partners, has witnessed this reality firsthand.

That is why prayer is essential. Powerful intercessory prayer strengthens and supports those serving on the mission field. This is one of the reasons we continue to strengthen our prayer support for our mission teams.

In particular, I ask for your prayers for our upcoming Tanzania mission team. During the past fifteen years of ministry in Tanzania, I have witnessed many spiritual attacks through illness, division, discouragement, and various hardships. This year, many of our next-generation students and young people will be participating in the mission. The enemy strongly opposes seeing the next generation encounter God's grace and respond to His calling.

Our Tanzania mission trip is now only one week away. During this coming week, we will dedicate ourselves to focused prayer for the mission team and the work ahead. I encourage all parents to join us in praying for their children, and I ask every member of our church family to stand with us in prayer and intercession.
