작은 것에 순종할 때 믿음이 성장합니다

지난주에는 ‘선한 사마리아인’이라는 주제로 설교를 드렸고, 그 말씀을 실천하는 과제를 함께 나누었습니다. 감사하게도 성도님들 중 약 3분의 2가 순종하여 주셨습니다. 제가 실천 부분을 강조한 이유는 야고보서 1:22절의 말씀처럼 단순히 말씀을 듣고만 그치는 것이 아니라, 실제 삶으로 이어지게 하기 위함입니다.

“너희는 말씀을 행하는 자가 되고 듣기만 하여 자신을 속이는 자가 되지 말라.” [약 1:22]

이번 주에도 말씀을 삶으로 적용하신 분들은 말씀을 ‘내 것’으로 삼은 것이며, 복음이 삶 속에 뿌리내린 증거일 것입니다. 왜냐하면 순종에는 자기부인과 헌신이 필요하기 때문입니다. 믿음은 들음에서 작되지만, 그 성장은 순종을 통해 이루어집니다.

오늘은 믿음을 성장케 하는 순종의 몇 가지 단계를 나누고자 합니다.

1. 말씀을 잘 들어야 합니다.

먼저 하나님의 말씀을 마음으로 잘 받아들이고, 주님께서 무엇을 원하시는지 분명히 알아야 합니다. 그렇지않으면 잘못된 순종이 될 수 있습니다.

2. 말씀대로 순종해야 합니다.

내 생각에 동의되기 때문에 따르는 것이 아니라, 하나님의 말씀이기에 그대로 순종하는 것입니다. 베드로는어부의 상식으로는 이해되지 않았지만, “말씀에 의지하여” 깊은 곳에 그물을 던졌을 때 놀라운 기적을 경험했습니다. 지난주에도 지침을 드렸으나 그대로 순종한 분은 단 네 분뿐이었습니다.

3. 즉시 순종해야 합니다.

순종은 미루면 결국 하지 못하게 됩니다. 제가 예배 시간에 카드를 나누어 드리고 바로 작성하게 한 이유도, 시간이 지나면 감동도 의지도 사라지기 때문입니다. 미루는 순간 사탄이 마음을 빼앗아 갑니다.

4. 기쁘고 즐겁게 순종해야 합니다.

억지로 하는 것이 아니라, 기쁘고 즐겁게 순종할 때 그 안에서 더욱 큰 기쁨이 넘칩니다.

이번 한 주도 두 가지 실천 과제를 드립니다.

1. 아가페를 앞두고 또 한 명의 ‘강도 만난 사람’을 찾아 섬겨 보십시오.

2. 그리고 원바디 금요예배 때 전해진 말씀을 소리 내어 읽는 훈련을 해보십시오.

순종할 때 믿음은 성장합니다.

Faith Grows Through Obedience in Small Things

Last week, I preached on the parable of the Good Samaritan and gave our congregation a practical challenge to put the message into action. I am grateful that about two-thirds of you responded in obedience. The reason I emphasized practice is the same as James teaches us: that we may not deceive ourselves by being mere hearers of the Word without doing it.

James 1:22 – “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do

what it says.”

Those who practiced last week’s message have made it their own and allowed the gospel to take root in their lives. This is because obedience requires self-denial and personal dedication. Faith comes by hearing, but faith grows by obeying.

Today, I want to briefly share a few steps of obedience that lead to growth.

1. Listen carefully.

We must first receive God’s Word with open hearts and clearly understand what He is asking of us. Otherwise, we may end up with misguided obedience.

2. Do exactly as instructed.

We obey not because it agrees with our reasoning, but simply because it is God’s Word. Peter, though it made no sense to him as a fisherman, cast his nets into the deep at Jesus’ command—and witnessed a miracle. Yet, even last week, though specific instructions were given, only four people followed them fully.

3. Obey immediately.

Delayed obedience often becomes disobedience. That is why I asked you to fill out the cards right away during the service—because as time passes, both conviction and willingness fade. If we postpone obedience, the enemy quickly steals it from our hearts.

4. Obey joyfully.

When we obey with gladness rather than reluctance, joy overflows within us all the more.

This week, I would like to offer two practical challenges:

1. As we approach Agape, find another “person beaten by robbers” in your life and minister to them.

2. Practice reading aloud the message from our One Body Friday worship service.

When you obey, your faith will grow.
