단순한 순종, 위대한 시작

저는 지금 필리핀 세부 슬럼가의 새벽을 깨우고 있습니다. 고요한 새벽 3시, 쓰레기 더미 위에 지어진 위태로운 집들 사이에서 지난 한 주간의 기적을 기록합니다.

사실 지난 주일, 비전센터를 선포하기 전 제 마음에는 말 못 할 두려움이 있었습니다. 어둠의 권세는 끊임없이 저를 누르려 했습니다. 하지만 하나님은 말씀에 강력한 기름을 부으셨고, 저는 담대히 선포했습니다. 그때 그 비전을 자신의 사명으로 영접하는 성도들이 보였습니다. 하나님이 일하시기 시작한 것입니다.

비전 선포 직후, 성령님은 저를 이곳 필리핀의 가장 낮은 곳으로 인도하셨습니다. 이곳은 참으로 이상한 땅입니다. 화려한 휴양지 바로 옆에, 삶에서 밀려난 이들이 쓰레기 더미 위에 집을 짓고 삽니다.

“주님, 이곳에서 무엇을 전해야 합니까?" 간절히 부르짖을 때 예레미야 33장 1~3절의 말씀을 주셨습니다. 말씀을 전하는 순간, 성령님께서 현장을 주도하셨습니다. 평생 소리 내어 기도해 본 적 없던 50여 명의 성도들이 통성으로 기도하기 시작했습니다. 회개의 눈물과 방언이 터져 나왔습니다. 대여섯 살 어린아이들까지 성령의 불을 체험했습니다.

이 모든 기적을 만든 단어는 오직 하나, '순종' 이었습니다. 우리가 성령님의 음성에 심플하게 순종하면, 일은 하나님이 하십니다. 비전센터의 선포도, 세부의 기적도 제가 한 것이 아닙니다. 저는 그저 발을 내디뎠을 뿐입니다.

찬송가 가사가 귓가에 맴돕니다. "예수 따라가며 복음 순종하면 우리 행할 길 환하겠네.” 사랑하는 성도 여러분, 이번 한 주간 복잡한 생각을 내려놓고 '심플한 순종'을 선택해 보십시오. 우리가 순종할 때, 하나님은 비로소 우리 삶에 위대하고 비밀한 일을 시작하십니다.

Simple Obedience, a Great Beginning

I am writing this at dawn in the slums of Cebu, Philippines. At 3:00 a.m., in the stillness of the early morning, among fragile homes built on heaps of garbage, I am recording the miracles of the past week.

To be honest, before proclaiming the Vision Center last Sunday, my heart was filled with unspoken fear. The power of darkness tried relentlessly to press me down. But God poured a powerful anointing upon His Word, and I proclaimed it with boldness. In that moment, I saw members of the congregation receive the vision as their own calling. God had begun to work.

Immediately after the proclamation of the vision, the Holy Spirit led me to the lowest place in the Philippines. This land is truly strange—right next to luxurious resorts live people who have been pushed aside by life, building their homes on piles of trash.

"Lord, what do You want me to proclaim here?" As I cried out earnestly, He gave me the Word from Jeremiah 33:1-3. The moment the Word was preached, the Holy Spirit took complete control of the gathering. More than fifty believers—many of whom had never prayed out loud in their lives—began to pray aloud together. Tears of repentance flowed, and tongues were released. Even children as young as five or six experienced the fire of the Holy Spirit.

All of these miracles were born from one single word: obedience. When we respond simply to the voice of the Holy Spirit, God does the work. The proclamation of the Vision Center and the miracles in Cebu were not my doing. I simply took a step forward.

A hymn keeps echoing in my heart: "Trust and obey, for there's no other way To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey." Beloved saints, for this coming week, lay down complicated thoughts and choose simple obedience. When we obey, God begins to work great and hidden things in our lives.
